A Brief Review of the Roots of the Modern Day Hoody

G Star - An Overview of the Hoody

Reference: G Star Raw Clothing.

The modern day hoody as we recognize it now can be traced all the way back to the Middle Ages of Europe when monks wore a cowl with an attached cover

It is thought that the modern version of the hoody emerged in the 1930s when clothing company Champion made the item of clothing for warehouse workmen, to protect them from freezing temperatures. It suddenly caught on among working men.

The hoody gained popular attractiveness when taken-up by designers such as Claire McCardell, who made it a essential factor of her clothing designs.

The recent popularity of the hoody, and the extent of it's adoption in every day life, possibly dates back to the 1970s and the hip hop culture. The hoody provided cover and instant anonymity and is ideal for criminals. This loaned the hoody an edgy cool. Popular culture quickly caught on. For example the hoody was a central icon in the movie ‘Rocky’. It wasn't too long before the hoody gained additional kudos as a gritty urban clothing item. The hoody has since been adopted by the urban poor in both the UK, the USA and parts of Europe. and has gone on to be an incredibly popular and widespread garment.

Several firms now design and create hoodys. A talented case in point is the G Star range of hoodies - check out this example G Star Mens Hoody.

Do Real Men Wear Pink?

Pink is so often the colour associated with feminity. When you see a pink shirt being worn by a man do you jump to conclusions about his sexual identity? You may not realise this but pink can look really good on some men. So the question for you is, if you are a man, would you wear pink?

Pink can be elegant, subtle and fashionable. It can also be peculiar and brassy. For example, the pastel pinks can look really good in a semi-formal setting or when you just want to look smart-casual. You have to be extremely careful of the brighter pinks as they will look ‘shocking’ and tacky - they either remind one of the disco time of the 80s or the punk rock era of the 70s.

What Matches With Pink?

Pink is quite a straightforward colour to match, but you must be careful. Pink blends well with related colours such as salmon and brown. Pink also goes well with white, for example a pink tie on a white shirt. Avoid blues, greens and yellows. Pink goes well on people with brown or dark hair.

When can a man wear pink?

Whether at a meeting at work, buying the weekly groceries, drinking with buddies in a bar, of lounging about on your day off, pink is completely acceptable as a colour on men these days.

This isn’t an excuse to break dress-code however so always be sensitive to the occasion. Never put yourself at a social disadvantage. For example business meetings usually require for a conservative look such as a white shirt and a low key well-pressed suit.

A man can look great in pink.

Description of a Jacket - Lacoste Jacket

Jacket - three short definitions

From Wikipedia:

“A jacket is a type of sleeved hip- or waist-length garment for the upper body. For clothing older than the mid-nineteenth century, a distinction is often maintained with a coat, but in many instances the terms are now interchangeable. A jacket is generally shorter, ending just below the waist, and often lighter. Some jackets are fashionable, while others serve as protective clothing”.
